The Next Step in Treatment: Zantac and Allergies
When most people think of Zantac, they think of people suffering from acid reflux disease, if not those who
simply have a habit of overindulging in the foods that cause a flare up of indigestion. But Zantac is increasingly being looked at by doctors in
the treatment of allergies. The most effective drugs in the fight against allergies have
typically been antihistamines. Zantac happens to be a type 2 histamine blocker, which means it has a powerful effect on those who have been
unable to gain enough relief from traditionally allergy medications.
There are, of course, disadvantages to using any type of antihistamines. These drugs typically cause a certain
level of drowsiness to set in, making it difficult for people to function at a hundred percent while on these medications. This effect may be
increased with the addition of type 2 histamine blockers like the ones found in Zantac or Tagamet.
Other side effects known to be associated with antihistamines include dry mouth and a certain level of
decreased brain function, particularly in seniors. Again, these effects could be worsened with the addition of Zantac. Consult your doctor to see
if this anti-reflux medication could help you in your fight against allergies.
