Things You should Know about Zantac Allergies

What is Zantac?

Zantac (ranitidine) is a histamine-2 blocker, which works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. It is commonly used to treat and prevent ulcers intestines and stomach, as well as aiding digestion when the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. As with any medication, some people may find themeselves allergic to Zantac.

Zantac Allergies

Zantac allergies, although rare, can be fatal if not caught and treated early. Common sympoms of Zantac allergies include shortness of breath, throat tightness, faintness, and/or severe hives. If you observe these reactions in yourself or someone you know taking Zantac, immediately stop taking the medication, and contact your physician.

Less severe reactions, such as mild hives or itchy skin can also occur. Some people find that taking a cold shower and a mild dose of Benadryl help with these mild symptoms.

Note: If you are allergic to any type of acid reducer, you may run a high risk of Zantac allergies.
